This exciting event brings together healthcare design professionals from across the region for a day of engaging presentations, thought-provoking panel discussions, and a prestigious design awards program, all aimed at advancing best practices in the field. This year’s competition “Igniting Change” encourages students to think about how the design of a building relates to its surroundings and its community. Students will be asked to design a new fire station in a small historic downtown. This multi-dimensional program presents many layers of complexity for design exploration and should be an engaging challenge for any student at any skill level who is interested in art, architecture, drafting, or interior design. This design competition is an excellent vehicle for students to explore an interest in architecture and design, as well as a great resume builder. This fall, over 300 Kentucky and Indiana architects are expected to attend the 2025 AIA Kentucky | AIA Indiana Convention in Lexington, KY on September 18 and 19. Convention activities will include keynote presentations, break-out educational sessions, design and service award ceremonies, an opening night Icebreaker and a TRADE SHOW with Exhibit Hall Lunch and Happy Hour. Through the Design Awards program, AIA Indiana asks a jury of peers to select projects by leading Indiana registered architects that serve as a tribute to design excellence. This year’s jury was from AIA Nebraska and chaired by James Walbridge, FAIA – Shive-Hattery. Other jurors included: Mike Hamilton, AIA – HDR Inc.: Kate Hier, AIA – Clark & Enersen; Kristi Nohavec, AIA – LEO A DALY; Ross Miller, Associate AIA – FormGrey Studio; and Patrick Moore, AIA – Goodlife Architecture. Join members of AIA Northern Indiana and the Young Architects Forum of AIA Northern Indiana on Friday, February 28, 6:30 p.m. EST, at Howard Park Event Center – Farmer Room, 219 South Saint Louis Boulevard, South Bend, IN 46617, for the 3rd Annual Trivia Night! Come out to play five regular rounds of trivia questions plus a few surprises. Six players per team, 15 teams are welcome to register. Register today! Winning team will take home a fabulous prize and have bragging rights until the next AIA Northern Indiana /YAF NI Trivia event. The AIA Indiana Emerging Professional (EP) Friendly/Exemplary Firm Recognition is a newly established annual designation approved by the AIA Indiana Board of Directors in 2024. The goal of the program is to celebrate firms who offer exceptional support and opportunities for their early professionals. Additionally, the program seeks to foster a dialogue within firms across the state with the objective of creating new policies and practices that promote innovation, development, and progressive workplaces for the future members of the design profession. An early professional, or EP, is defined as someone who is part of the architectural staff, has been working in the architectural profession for 10 years or less and fills one of the following roles: recent graduate or unlicensed emerging professional. This accolade aims to provide a clearer, more accessible route for individuals pursuing licensure. Two designations were possible for a firm to receive: the AIA Indiana EP Friendly Firm or the AIA Indiana EP Exemplary Firm designation. See the list of award-winning firms below.
