Through the Design Awards program, AIA Indiana asks a jury of peers to select projects by leading Indiana registered architects that serve as a tribute to design excellence. This year’s jury was from AIA Nebraska and chaired by James Walbridge, FAIA – Shive-Hattery. Other jurors included: Mike Hamilton, AIA – HDR Inc.: Kate Hier, AIA – Clark & Enersen; Kristi Nohavec, AIA – LEO A DALY; Ross Miller, Associate AIA – FormGrey Studio; and Patrick Moore, AIA – Goodlife Architecture. Join AIA Northern Indiana members and friends on Wednesday, November 20, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. EST at Four Winds Field, 501 West South Street, South Bend, IN 46601, for an engaging presentation, Evolve or Fall Behind: Maximizing Accessibility, Safety, and Sustainability through 3D Technology. Zach Rider from ROYCE 3D Scanning will demonstrate how 3D scanning technologies, including Scan-to-BIM and drone scanning, enhance building accessibility, safety, and sustainability. By leveraging these technologies, professionals can ensure compliance with standards such as ADA, improve emergency preparedness, and support sustainable building practices. The presentation will be held in the Pepsi Club on the second floor of Four Winds Field, located behind home plate. The AIA Indiana Emerging Professional (EP) Friendly/Exemplary Firm Recognition is a newly established annual designation approved by the AIA Indiana Board of Directors in 2024. The goal of the program is to celebrate firms who offer exceptional support and opportunities for their early professionals. Additionally, the program seeks to foster a dialogue within firms across the state with the objective of creating new policies and practices that promote innovation, development, and progressive workplaces for the future members of the design profession. An early professional, or EP, is defined as someone who is part of the architectural staff, has been working in the architectural profession for 10 years or less and fills one of the following roles: recent graduate or unlicensed emerging professional. This accolade aims to provide a clearer, more accessible route for individuals pursuing licensure. Two designations were possible for a firm to receive: the AIA Indiana EP Friendly Firm or the AIA Indiana EP Exemplary Firm designation. See the list of award-winning firms below.

This one-hour session, scheduled for Thursday, November 21, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., at The Hoppy Gnome, 203 East Berry St., Fort Wayne, IN, 46802, will provide attendees with an overview of the LEED v5 Building Design and Construction (BD+C): New Construction rating system from the U.S. Green Building Council. The session will provide a summary of the overall structure of LEED v5 BD+C, its systems goals, the BD+C credit categories, and then a brief walk-through of the prerequisites and credits within each credit category. Throughout the session, the presenter, Dan Overbey, AIA, will offer points of comparison and contrast with the previous version of the rating system (LEED v4/v4.1 BD+C).
