Well organized and functional space from a complex program type. Simple material palette and consistency of the red highlight tie the facility together. We appreciate the complex program and the civic piece of architecture. There is a consistency of a red color scheme with a thin expression of an overhang. The building fosters and supports community stability and fulfills the primary focus to meet the needs of the firefighters and facility operations.

Innovative room layout makes this a standout. This project is an innovative solution for organizing program elements within patient rooms while being considerate of function from the corridor. The cleverness of the floor plan is interesting while being clearly organized. The muted palette and innovating lighting provide a nice place for patients to be.

For the cost, this project creates a dramatic transformation that successfully creates multiple casual settings with a single unified space. We appreciate that somebody took their idea and went 100% to add texture and create space within an existing building. We like the floor plan and how the space is divided. The visibility through the entire space is great. Innovative solutions were embedded to carve individual spaces within a large space. Spatial organization is continued with the ceiling – the ceiling responds to what is going on under it which further accentuates the individual spaces.

St. Joseph County Public Library Addition and Renovation – South Bend, IN
Well executed interior spaces in both the new and existing buildings. Renovation of main stair with visual connections to multiple areas of the library is very successful, as is the level of natural daylight throughout. The solution is transformative to downtown South Bend. The reserved interiors are elegant and cohesive between old and new. The restrained material palette of the interiors is the strength of the submission.
