AIA Northern Indiana May Program – Tour of Plymouth’s Historic REES Theatre

Plymouth, Indiana’s REES Theatre, circa 1939-40, is a venerable late Art Deco cinema constructed on the shell of the former VanVactor building (circa 1865). Closing in 2009, the REES sat dark until a dedicated team of individuals purchased the building in December 2016 and embarked on a six-year odyssey to bring the venue back to life. During this tour, which is scheduled for Wednesday, May 15, 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. EDT, at The REES, 100 North Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563, participants will be able to explore the unique attributes of a historic theatre restoration / repurposing, including the advanced technology programmed into the facility and examine how the historic structure played a part in the design layout. The design team will also discuss the specific coordination of dilapidated structural elements, and integration of alternative energy components. This tour has been submitted for an AIA LU. Thanks to Brent Martin, SRKM Architecture for all the assistance in making this program possible. Following the tour please plan to attend Happy Hour at Opie’s Deli. CLICK HERE to register.
