The reference library’s massing is beautifully proportioned and executed and is only surpassed by the thoughtful and powerful concept found in the sunscreens. The tension detailing for these screens is absolutely delicious, especially at the corners. The symbolism, scale and construction of the tree columns are powerful.

Jury Comments:

Without question, this project is worthy the 25 Year Award. Even though the addition is now a major component of the library, it does not take away from the influence of the original design. The project is well documented and the evolution depicted in the photographs shows it’s continued in the same use for its entire life.
